During the meeting, H.E. Kader emphasized the Egyptian political leadership’s directives to advancing all forms of cooperation with South Sudan, specifically, efforts to support the energy sector by rehabilitating and operating power stations in the South Sudanese town of Rumbek and Yambio city, respectively. H.E. Kader outlined Egypt’s “readiness to intensify training programs, capacity building and transfer of expertise to qualify South Sudanese workers.”
On the other hand, Hon. Minister Marcello expressed appreciation to Egypt for the country’s unwavering support to South Sudan, emphasizing how bilateral cooperation has been a key driver to energy sector advancements, particularly regarding power generation projects. Hon. Minister Marcello further cited advances made in plans to further integrate renewable energy in South Sudan through a key solar power plant.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, H.E. Khaled Adbel Ghaffar, met with Hon. Gabriel Changson Chang, South Sudan’s Minister of Higher Education, on June 3, 2022, in Cairo to discuss cooperation within the fields of science, technology, and innovation.
During the meeting, the ministers discussed Egypt’s support of all South Sudanese students registered at Egyptian universities across a myriad of disciplines, with collaboration in education seen as key driver to empowering South Sudan with scientific expertise. Skills transfer and capacity building driven by bilateral cooperation will be critical for expanding South Sudan’s energy sector, and Egypt’s experience and knowledge will be instrumental.
